Osteoarthritis Chronic Care Program

Osteoarthritis Chronic Care Program

MGS Mona Vale Physiotherapist Reece Jones is currently implementing and co-ordinating this comprehensive Exercise program designed to help patients avoid or prolong the need for Knee Replacements or major surgery. Results are very promising, with conclusive evidence showing the marked benefits of having a tailored program of exercise to strengthen the legs and core muscles for patients with a range of knee issues.

If you feel that you may be a suitable candidate, book your appointment here  to see Reece and he will undertake a range of strength and baseline measures, and give you his advice on what benefit you could achieve.

AIMS of the OACCP Program:

To provide interventions that support people with osteoarthritis of the hip and/or knee to:

  • Self manage their condition
  • Reduce pain and increase their function
  • Prevent falls
  • Reduce the length of hospital stay
  • Reduce the need for sub-acute rehabilitation

The OACCP program will run for 6-8 physiotherapy sessions with a booster session every 1-2 months to review symptoms and home exercises. It aims to educate individuals as well as reduce the need for a joint replacement early on.

Benefits:

The OCACCP model of care has been implemented in the local health districts of NSW. After evaluating 8 of those, it was found:

  • 11% of patients agreed they did not need surgery at the time
