Dan GartnerBa.App.Sc (Physiotherapy)Ba. App.Sc.(PTHY) HonBefore embarking on his physiotherapy career, Dan spent most of his time as a professional rugby league footballer. During this time he experienced what it was like to be on the treatment table. Dan believes he gained valuable insight into a patient’s perception of an injury and also their understanding of the rehabilitation process. Dan feels that explaining a person’s injury to them is a vital component of therapy. Information provides the patient with a logical foundation from which the rehabilitation process can begin allowing essential active input from the person suffering the injury. During his studies Dan had the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial of exercise programs for people who had suffered traumatic brain injury. What they observed was that given the right environment and motivation anyone is capable of achieving their exercise goals. When he is not being a physiotherapist Dan likes a surf and keeping fit in general. Previously he had bravely volunteered his services as a nipper’s age manager at his local surf club. Overseeing a rather large group of promising young athletes proved at times to be a challenge. Rumour has it now that he has turned his efforts to triathlon so we will all be expecting big things Dan has had more injuries himself than any other physio that we know of. If you explain your symptoms to Dan there is a pretty good chance that he knows just how you feel. The QuizMost inspirational historical or public person |
